2024 Campout VERSION 3.0 – Willamette Mission Park Edition

2023 Dates: August 30th – September 3rd

The premiere event for Cascade Brewers Society! Come join us for fun, swimming, TUG OF WAR, beer, and good food! This year Campout will take place at Willamette Mission State Park. This is a much less rustic location with more amenities and notably NOT in a mountain range. While it broadly has more going on, we’ll be in Beaver Island Group Camp. What State Parks has to say:
There’s space for up to 100 tent campers, with a fire ring, picnic tables, water and outhouse. Flush restroom building is nearby. No showers, power or shelter.

If you don’t want to tent camp, please get a spot in the larger campground ASAP!

Note: this is a family friendly event, but family does not extend to your four-legged, fur-babies. Dogs (and cats, ferrets, and the like) are not allowed.

Did you see those two bolded points? There’s a need to do two things:

  1. Confirm/commit to attending the party (see shared spreadsheet).
  2. Carpool. Yes. While you’ll not absolutely need to share some interior car/truck space with someone else, it’s always nice to offer! (See shared spreadsheet for coordination).

Please note on the shared spreadsheet what you are contributing to campout! This includes:

  • Beer
  • Jockey box (or multiple if you’ve got them)
  • CO2
  • Food (especially for the communal meals)
  • Games (yard, board, or otherwise)
  • Equipment (grill? smoker? generator? hatchet?)
  • Supplies (general in nature)
  • ICE. Lots of it.

Meals

Much of what makes campout awesome is the collective meals that happen! If bringing food to share, please be mindful of dietary restrictions and diets. You do not need to cook for everyone, but please label your food with basic ingredients so that no one needs to be rushed out! You are encouraged (not required) to participate in the following:

Friday

Taco Bar:
Who doesn’t love tacos? Bring your best fixings, and be wary of any peppers – there’s a number of hot heads in this group!

Saturday

Hangover Breakfast:
Let’s face it – you’ll have had a bit to drink on Friday night (mead night, anyone)? And you’ll want something to set your stomach straight.

Lunch/early Dinner Potluck:
Here’s your chance to showcase your camping culinary skills! Bring something tasty and share with the crew.

Tug-o-War

This is what you really want to know about! Kathleen and Carl are challenging the club to come up with teams to compete in a now annual tradition. Timing: mid-afternoon Saturday.

Rules: Teams of five each will vie for the prize (to be determined by Kathleen and Carl each year). Get your team together, bring gloves (it’s an actual jute rope), your lucky hat/sunglasses/shoes/scarf, and you can even have a coach. Or, create a team on the spot! Be prepared to be sore the next day!

Fire

Let’s face it. No one wants to be burnt to a crisp, and August (and September) is prime fire season in Oregon. You should know the fire restrictions for the Oregon State Parks before you go.

Most likely, open fires from wood will not be allowed (that has happened in the past). If a fire is what you want, consider a propane fire pit! If you have one (and a tank of gas) please add it to the Google Sheet so that other members know what to plan for.
